Dear Doc,
Is a 6x68(P150) as fast as a Pentium 150. I would also like to know how it compares in the area of quaility. It seems there are quite a lot advertized.

Dear Barry,
The test results posted all over the Internet would have us believe the Cyrix is considerably faster! I believe part of this is due to the way the software reacts to the design of the chip which is quite different from Intel. Intel is the world leader, they’re the one everyone is trying to keep up with. The cyrix chip itself seems to be quite good. The Cyrix Fpu is slower than Intel’s. The main complaint I have is the motherboard used by all the system builders are engineered for Intel. The achitecture of Cyrix is different, so even though the chip may be good, sticking it into a generic motherboard will not help it to perform the way it was designed. A lot of the testing was done in motherboards specifically designed for Cyrix. Too many clone builders try to jump on the band wagon and are using boards optimized for Intel. Expect problems. The Cyrix chips are alot less money than Intel making them easier to market and the systems sell for less. When I advertize a Cadillac system with Intel, and the big city boys throw together a system made of bargain basement products it may appear cheaper on the surface. Smoke and Mirrors! Rule of thumb in the computer business is, if it is cheap it’s usually junk (or Hot) You cannot afford to risk your hard earned money on these mass produced market hype relicks hoping by some miracle they will function somewhat like computers and the precision instruments that they are. Consider this, if they are willing to cut corners on the processsor to save a few bucks, they won’t think twice about cheapening all the other components as well...Cd, Video,Hard Drive etc. When shopping for a computer use common sense and logic.... computer logick.!
For Now, Doc
