In a time when money is so tight and businesses are trying to find new frontiers, many are turning to the "Net". I was reading the other day of some company bragging they were going to be offering menial jobs over the "Net" and I thought to myself "who cares". It would be easier to pick up the phone. By the time I finished reading their spiel I was ready to throw up. Their site was quite overrated and it was clear they were attempting to get people excited about it when really it was quite boring. "We are progressive, choose us", and some people actually may fall for it. I guess they think us all to be morons. If we start believing this garbage we might just prove them right. My site has been hit about 50,000 times since I put it up over a year ago; ...... my sign on Bayfield gets read that much every week! One well placed ad in the Advance can be read by 20,000 people in a week easily. Of my 50,000 hits how many do you suppose were from off shore or south of the Border. Do I care if someone in Taiwan looks at my computer site? Or Mexico? Or Cleveland? My market, my service and my support is best served in my own backyard . . . Barrie and area.
It's a good thing Internet is cheap, just how much is your time really worth? Some Internet service providers are telling us get more hours use more Internet. The worst thing that has happened in my opinion is the monthly charge. People pay $20.00 or $30.00 a month and because of that feel obligated to get their moneys worth. As much as 50 hrs can be called pure waste. How much is your time worth? The 50 hours is worth about $25.00. If you only were worth $5.00 an hour, $250.00 PER MONTH is wasted. Personally I value my time at about 10 times that so for me no waste is acceptable. In a timely fashion Barrie Internet created Time Blocks and that solves this problem. Pay $.60 an hour in a time block and if you spend 20 hours and are finished that's all that comes off your block. No pressure to use more. No waste. No monthly charges to hassle or worry about. I suppose I have become a big proponent of this new era as I easily sold 6000 hours last month, of time blocks, from my Bayfield St. location.
I believe the Internet to be a very useful tool, but like Christmas shopping and the Olympics it is becoming too commercialized and getting milked for all its worth.
